All of these facts are true. Whether they are relevant is a matter of opinion.

  1. I’m doing this because the Socceroos play Kyrgyzstan tonight in Bishkek.
  2. Bishkek is the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

  4. Technically, you would get no points, as you’re not allowed proper nouns in Scrabble.

  7. It has an area of almost exactly 200,000km^2.
  8. That is slightly smaller than Victoria.

  20. No airlines from Kyrgyzstan are allowed to fly people in the European Union.
  21. They have never made it past the second round of World Cup qualification.
  22. This is the first time since 2006 they’ve gotten past the two-leg first round playoff.
  23. They received a bye to the second round this time, however, as they were the 27th best ranked Asian team. (We were 10th.)
  24. Their greatest player ever is Vadim Kharchenko, who has played 52 games, scored 3 goals, and won the 2006 Krygyzstan Midfielder of the Year.
  25. He is now of Russian nationality, so he is ineligible to play for them.
  26. Their current best player is Anton Zemlianukhin.
  27. He is 26, plays club soccer in Serbia, and is their all time leading goal scorer, with 5.
  28. He set the record on Thursday, kicking two goals against Bangladesh.
  29. Kyrgyzstan has never played Australia.
  30. I have never gotten a view on this blog from Kyrgyzstan.
