Something big could be coming to Statscrunch.
It isn’t well known that there’s a thriving AFL community in international places. But there is, and it came to a peak in 2014 with the fifth edition of the International Cup. Teams as diverse as Tonga, Japan, Finland and Canada competed, and there was a women’s competition for the first time. For the record, Papua New Guinea won.
There are other regional competitions, including the Euro Cup. The most recent competition was held in 2015, and won by Denmark over England.
After finding out about this triumph, I sent an email to the DAFL (Danish Australian Football League), and was contacted by Morten Merhøj. He’s a big name in Danish AFL, as the founder of the Odense Lions, player for the national side, and coach of the national women’s team. He let me know that he’d be happy to comply for an interview, so that may happen soon.
I’ll let you know more when it happens.
