At the 1982 FIFA World Cup, France scored a goal to go up 4-1 against Kuwait. The Kuwaitis thought that the referee (from the Soviet Union, by the way) had blown the whistle, and so stopped playing. At this point, Sheikh Fahid Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, president of the Kuwait Football Association, marched onto the pitch and demanded that the goal be taken off. And the referee actually agreed! For the record, France scored another goal to make it 4-1 again.
