The feature of last weekend’s round of afl football was the number of players who snuck into the Top 100 at their club.
As predicted in our last blog, West Coast Eagle Josh Kennedy was the only goal kickers on the overall Top 100 Goal kickers to improve his position. Outside the Top 100 at the start of the year, his stellar performances have seen him rise to 89th position on the list! On the weekend, he past Melbourne’s Fred Fanning (the only man to kick 18 goals in a VFL/AFL game, and he did it in his last game for Melbourne!) and “the Chimp” – former South Melbourne (Sydney Swans) player and triple Brownlow Medallist Bob Skilton.
At a club level, Denis Armfield joined Barry Gill, Ken Sheldon and Jon Dorotich in the “death seat” at Carlton, Sam Wright moved into equal 99th position at North Melbourne with Les Reeves and Daniel Pratt whilst Lachie Weller joined the crush of players in equal 100th position at Fremantle: Alex Silvangi, Jay van Berlo and Leigh Wardell-Johnson.
Among the goal kickers, Essendon now has a new member of the Top 100 club: Joe Daniher broke into the ranks in 96th position. The unlucky player to lose his invite to future Top 100 parties was Hugh Torney.
