As we will leave any discussion on the two Grand Finalists until after the big match on Saturday, it leaves only St Kilda and West Coast to be discussed at this time.
St Kilda – surprisingly for a club considered to be an up and comer – finished the year with 8 current players in the Top 100 game players for the club of all time. This included 3 in the Top 20 (Nick Riewoldt #4, Leigh Montagna #8 and Sam Fisher #18).
Amongst the goal kickers, however, there was only 5, with Nick Riewoldt well entrenched at #3 but no other current players making the Top 20.
West Coast, although having been around for some considerable time now, could still be considered to be a “newer” club, and therefore would be expected to have more current day players amongst the champions with longevity at the club. This is certainly the case with 22 current players featuring in the Top 100 game players for the club.
However, none of these players have yet made it into the Top 10 for the club, and only 2 (Matt Pridis and Shannon Hurn have made it into the Top 20. Goal kicking wise, current players are well represented in the Top 10 with Josh Kennedy at number 2, Mark Lecras at number 4 and Jack Darling at number 8. Josh Hill also makes it into the Top 20 at number 16.
Once again, there are plenty of other current day players amongst the goal kickers with another 12 making the list!
